He showed him all that was to be done---not only cutting grass, but also trimming around the trees and sweeping up the clippings. For this task, the father promised five dollars (a goodly sum in those days!).....Accordingly,the son cut the grass and swept up the clippings, but he neglected trimming around the trees. When his dad came home and inspected the job, he said that the son had failed to fulfill his assignment and there would be no pay. The son pleaded for the opportunity for a second chance to trim around the trees properly. But his dad refused. Because the job was not done right, there wasno financial reward.....The boy was disappointed,but the next time he was asked to mow the grass, he did a thorough joband got paid. In fact, he got so good at it he was soon asked to mow other people's lawns.
